Our Story

Voxa was founded in 2012 to transform analytical nanoscale imaging. Nano-imaging is a key component of the technology development chain supporting broad industries including microchips, drug therapies, and surgical implants. Voxa's engineering and support teams are committed to bringing this technology to a broader base of scientists, engineers, educators & learners, and the public to unlock the nano-world.

At Voxa, we believe that democratizing scientific processes will drive further discovery and technology development in laboratories, production floors, and classrooms around the world, where nano-imaging technology was previously inaccessible.

By pushing limits of instrumentation in new ways, we aim for our tools to catalyze new forms of discovery and aid in furthering human technological progress.

Christopher Own, PhD
Dr. Own has over two decades experience in electron microscopy (EM) and EM instrumentation, with a PhD in materials science and engineering from Northwestern University. He currently serves as CEO of Voxa, where he spearheads development of Voxa's novel automated nanoscale imaging systems.
Lawrence Own, PhD
Dr. Own has a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Michigan, and is the former Director of Education for HiveBio in Seattle where he developed tools and methodology to increase accessibility and exposure of life science processes to citizen scientists.
Theodore DeRego
Teddy earned his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Hawaii at Hilo. He previously worked on Mars rover technologies in Hawaii and cloud performance at Google. His interests include: embedded development, operating systems, distributed systems, image/signal processing, and machine learning.
Gerward Weppelman, PhD
Dr. Weppelman earned his PhD in charged particle optics from Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands. His focus is in optical micro-electro mechanical systems (MEMS) and miniaturization of complex tools for condensed matter physics applications.
